Preseason friendly #2 - vs Sonning Common
6 Aug 2018 by Adam Labancz
We played our second friendly, in a similarly extreme conditions like the first one – except the pitch which was an outstanding 4G astroturf this time. It seems that our team don’t mind hot weather, scorching sun, as we continued to play in the same composed, disciplined way, as we left it at the previous game.
Considering that the opponent is in 2 divisions higher than us, we dominated midfield most of the time, with calm, short passes, creating chances both in the middle and by getting the ball out to the wings. The 2 goals we conceded reminds us to be sharper in defending against quick strikers who run our space, by improved positioning and better anticipation of these runs.
Winning by 4-2 is nice, but most important thing was the training, getting fitness, continue to build our shape and connections on the pitch. Also, everyone continues to impress by the dedication and commitment, whoever is there on the day for training or match – this is very encouraging as we are getting closer and closer to the season kick off!
It was also great to spend time together after the game at the pub, this shall become a standard program after every game and training!
